DIRECTIONS
1. =
To obtain c=
ompetition
materials, complete the Application Form at the bottom of the first page and
mail it with a check made out to MATE for $20.00 and send to: Dr. Thomas Kromer, 317 Ronan,

be done early in the semester.
2. =
Upon receiv=
ing
the completed Application Form, the official Entry Form, Lesson Plan Form,
Student Status Verification Form, and specific instructions will be mailed =
to
entrants.
3. =
Entrants mu=
st
mail in two completed sets of competition materials, plus one VHS videotape=
or
CD with introduction and reflection so that everything arrives on or before=
the
published deadline.
The lesson must be in a subject or grade level
appropriate to the entrant’s teacher preparation program. The lesson submitted must be compl=
eted
within the first 16 weeks of the student/intern teaching assignment. The lesson is not to exceed 30 min=
utes,
excluding the introduction and reflection.=
Lessons, which exceed 30 minutes, will be disqualified. The tape/CD must represent a conti=
nuous
teaching lesson. NO EDITING OR BREAKS IN THE ACTION ARE ALLOWED FOR THE 30-MINUTE
LESSON PORTION.

must be of satisfactory technical quality showing the entrant teaching the
submitted lesson plan. MATE i=
s not
responsible for damage to a submitted tape/CD. Include tape/CD case and protect carefully for shipping.
THE
VIDEOTAPE/CD MUST CONTAIN

An introduc=
tion
(not to exceed 3 minutes) which must include the following: A description of
the lesson, subject, instructional strategy (direct instruction, cooperative
learning, mediated learning, etc.); the setting (school size, student level=
(s),
community), class composition (gifted, special needs, bilingual).
2. =
The lesson =
itself
(not to exceed 30 minutes).
3. =
A reflective
analysis (not to exceed 8 minutes).

acceptable. All tapes/CDs and
materials become the property of M.A.T.E.

objective evaluation of each entrant, no indication of university or college
affiliation should be contained in the introduction, recorded lesson,
reflection or written portions except where this information is specifically
requested. Entries from intern
(multiple semester) programs must be received within the first 16 weeks of
actual teaching.
